LIAM in Fort McMurray
LIAM Construction was launched in 1979 by Bill de Silva from a warehouse in downtown Fort McMurray. There were two oil plants, Syncrude and Suncor, with their respective housing arms. Telegrams were sent from the railway in Waterways; no fax, no handheld radios. A barrel of oil was hovering in the low twenties and houses were around the seventy thousand mark.
LIAM’s first contract was to refurbish the old Alberta Treasury Branch for fifty-six thousand dollars, and we were off and running with a leased blue GM half ton truck.
Today, with an experienced work force and loyal sub contractors, we build this city. With the right parcel of land, we design, build, lease, or sell and manage our finished product. Our general contracting arm is LIAM Construction, our properties are all managed through LIAM Properties, and our hotels and extended stay suites fall under LIAM Hospitality. All our leaders have a support network of superintendents, controllers, interior designers, suppliers, and consultants.
